Maintenance Guidelines & Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you so much for deciding to volunteer with HYS! The edible landscape movement's success and ability to grow regionally requires exemplary gardens. The maintenance of planting zones is critical for accessibility of food and information. More importantly, examples of working, beautiful & abundant gardens inspire communities and institutions to consider their own transitions.
Orientation:
HYS! volunteers planted over 200 fruit trees and bushes throughout the valley in 2013! Public schools, institutions, businesses, churches, parks, and common spaces have opened their otherwise grassy lawns for public access fruit trees and beginning forest gardens.
By focusing on perennial veggies, tree crops, medicine herbs and pollinator habitat, we aim to normalize and promote discussions of food security, access, and land regeneration.
